“Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” — Hebrews 10:25 (NIV)
Found Near Joanna, South Carolina — and Still Kickin’ at Da Shed
It all started on a hot, dusty Tuesday afternoon when Opa was rummaging through the attic of a ramshackle, country home near the Joanna community — way out yonder in Palmetto Country. That’s where he found it. A crinkled, yellowed comic page tucked between a box of 8-track tapes and a rusty coffee can labeled “keys that don’t fit nothin’.”
At first, Opa thought it was just another old grocery list or maybe a doodle from some long-forgotten teenager. But when he brushed off the cobwebs and squinted through the attic sunlight, he realized what he had in his hands might be a genuine historical treasure. It was a full-color comic page titled "Sunday Morning Kickstart," and it appeared to be connected to the early days of a certain backwoods biker crew known only as Da Sheddites.
The Plot Thickens
Now here’s where it gets real interesting…
Nobody knows who drew this cartoon. No name. No date. Just a single hand-lettered note scribbled in the margin:
“This is why we meet on Saturday nights instead of Sunday mornings.”
That's it.
That’s the origin story—or at least the almost true version of it—for Da Shed, the biker church that gathers just outside Columbia, SC, next door to the Hardees and the VA hospital. The comic page seems to explain why Da Sheddites fire up their faith engines on Saturday nights instead of Sunday mornings.
Sometimes Cartoons Just Make More Sense
To be honest, when you see the cartoon for yourself (and we hope you will), it all starts to make sense. After all, some folks are built for Sunday morning sermons... and others are built for Saturday night spark plugs, praise music, and a hot dog cooked on a rusty grill behind Da Shed.
Oh, and in case you’re wondering — yes, Pastor Mikey is still there. Still pastoring. Still ponytailed. Still praying like heaven is listening (because it is). And no, you don’t have to ride a motorcycle to show up. Just bring your heart, your sense of humor, and maybe a lawn chair if you don’t want to sit on a milk crate.
