Herman and his buddy Deacon Guy were stunned. Both of them had seen one of those genealogy TV shows. The host interviewed comedian Bill Maher. During the interview, Maher repeatedly said he was an atheist. He seemed very proud of it.
Herman had cringed each time Maher proclaimed his faith. Deacon Guy was just confused. The deacon did what good deacons often do. He took it to his Bishop.
IT IS WRITTEN …
The Bible tells us that God created all things (Gen 1:1). It leaves no doubt. All that remains for the human person is to decide whether to believe or not.
The Bible goes on to say that Jesus holds all things together (Col 1:15-17). Not only did God create it all, but it is He who keeps it all going the way it is supposed to go.
The Catechism goes on to explain that, although creation is attributed to the Father, in particular, it is actually the work of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit together. The three “personas” are one. They are a single God who is the indivisible principal of creation.
LIFE GOES ON …
To Deacon Guy’s surprise, Bishop Bob was quite familiar with the news that Bill Maher was an outspoken atheist. Furthermore, the good bishop was actually sympathetic and compassionate for Maher.
Rather then ridicule Maher, Bishop Bob acknowledged that the truth, which is hidden in plain sight, was actually just that — hidden. One cannot see truth unless the Holy Spirit removes the scales from his eyes.
Bishop Bob encouraged Deacon Guy to intensify his intercessory prayer for the comedian. Maher is an incredibly gifted and talented person. He has a bright mind and an attractive personality. In truth, he’s a fun guy. Bishop Bob left Deacon Guy thinking how much brighter and more fun heaven would be if Bill Maher were there with us.
“Pray for him,” the Bishop encouraged Deacon Guy. “Pray for him and all those other wonderful people around us who have yet to see the glory of God.
That’s our story and we’re sticking to it. It’s cool to be Catholic. COOL2B!
