Cutting Grass

OUR STORY …

Herman’s buddy Earl was struggling a little. Earl, who is normally a pretty upbeat and energetic fellow, was cutting the grass today, but his heart just wasn’t in it.

“Why do we even need to cut grass, Lord?” he asked.

The Lord did not disappoint.

IT IS WRITTEN ..

The Bible tells us that Jesus wants to be our friend. And He wants us to be friends with Him. That’s a pretty difficult concept to grapple with. Imagine actually being friend with the one, true God!

The Catechism further explains that by His revelation the invisible God, out of love, meets us as his friends, moves among us, and receives us into his company.

LIFE GOES ON …

As Earl wheeled his zero-turn mower around the yard, he found himself asking God one question after another. And with each question came a response. Earl could never have heard “Mrs. Earl’s” voice over the roaring motor noise behind his seat, but he had no problem hearing God’s voice. In fact, he began to believe he was actually having yet another one of those holy moments there beneath the hot Carolina sun.

Even as his mower danced over the grass and he sweat profusely, Herman’s buddy came to an understanding that the appropriate response to God’s invitation to friendship is faith.

“I believe, dear Lord,” he said in the loud yet inaudible voice of his soul. “Help me with my unbelief.” (Mark 9:24)

COOL2B …

Soon the grass cutting was done, but brother Earl knew it was not for long. In just over a week, he would have another appointment with his best friend forever. Earl was glad God did not mind cutting grass with him.

That’s our story and we’re sticking to it. It’s cool to be Catholic. COOL2B!

In Christ.

  1. Caring for God’s little acre around Graywood is a blessing or a chance for penance. When the 20 years old zero-turn is running, a blessing, when down for repairs we do the penance push-it. That gives you more time for prayers and thanks for the zero-turn. Thank you. Jesus for the zero-turn, amen

  2. This cartoon was great, and so thought-provoking. I think yard work will give you enough fodder for cartoons so that you will never run out of ideas, lol….

    1. Amen, yard work is a perfect place to enter the school of silence. Sometimes it is a revelation, sometimes a need for confession. God only knows I am internally out of control. Amen
