Victory In Holy Moments

OUR STORY

One of the privileges that Herman enjoys as a Cathedral mouse with a mouse hole that opens directly into Bishop Bob’s study is having a front row seat to the conversations of great men of faith about their God. Herman witnessed just such a conversation recently when Deacon Guy stopped by to discuss the impact of sin on culture and society with the Bishop.

IT IS WRITTEN …

The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit convicts us of sin and unrighteousness (John 16:8; Acts 17:11). That’s very different from Satan, who is called “the Accuser” in Scripture (Rev 12:10). The Holy Spirit brings us to repentance and salvation in Christ, while Satan leads people to destruction and eternal damnation.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) teaches that God is good, and all His works are good too (CCC 385). That’s important as we consider the work of the Holy Spirit, the One who convicts us of our sins while there is still time to repent. This work starts with Original Sin, of course, our inheritance as children of Adam and Eve, but it does not end there. The Holy Spirit lives in us. He is our Counselor and Consoler throughout our life.

LIFE GOES ON …

As Herman listened to his friends discuss sin, the intensity of their conversation and the sincerity of their words really impacted him. He understood that he could not end sin in the world. God would have to do that. And it would happen at exactly the right time.

Herman also realized that he might not even be able to end sin in his own life, though he could end it for a moment right now — today.

Now was the time for a Holy Moment. The next Holy Moment in Herman’s life would work together with all the other Holy Moments he had experienced to transform his little life. Herman understood these things because God had sent him a friend and brother named Earl who openly lived those Holy Moments so that others might see them and grasp their power and importance.

“If you have enough Holy Moments,” Herman liked to think, “they can add up to a Holy Life.” Live your life moment-by-moment — one Holy Moment at a time.

COOL2B

That’s our story and we’re sticking to it. It’s cool to be Catholic. COOL2B!

In Christ.
