OUR STORY …
“Ahh,” Herman said quietly to himself. “This is like one of my buddy Earl’s famous Holy Moments.” Herman was referring to his latest retreat and pilgrimage.
The little, orange mouse was away from the Chucktown Cathedral for a few days to visit EWTN in Irondale, Alabama. It was one of his favorite pilgrimages, and he made one every few years. He always enjoyed watching how they produced episodes of his favorite TV programs.
Today he was in the audience while they filmed a program called “Father Spitzer’s Universe.” Fr. Spitzer talks about what the Church teaches and answers questions from people online too.
IT IS WRITTEN …
Knowledge, particularly of God’s revelation of Himself to mankind, has always been important to Herman. He understands that it is essential both for right thinking and good living. The Bible has much to say about knowledge.
The Bible says a wise person will want knowledge. It says that an intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of a wise person seeks it (Prov 18:15).
St. Paul asks of the Church of Colossi in whom are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge hidden (Col 2:3)?
Maybe most important, the Bible says that knowing the truth will set us all free (John 8:32). And as if He anticipated the question, “what is the truth?” Jesus tells the world, “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life” (John 14:6).
LIFE GOES ON …
Herman wants to know everything he can about God, of course. But He also wants to know about the Church Jesus started. Jesus has protected that Church for 2000 years and is still adding to it today, just as He promised (Matt 16:18). This Church, which is the Catholic Church, will some day be His bride (Eph 5:25-27).
If you’re Catholic and aren’t sure what your Church teaches or why it teaches what it does, perhaps you will invest a little time to check out Fr. Spitzer. Yes, he’s the blind priest, for those of you who might be asking. But Fr. Spitzer sees what’s really going on in the world more clearly than most of us with sight will ever see it. His program is a great way to grow in your faith without ever leaving your home.
And who knows! When you are ready to go out, maybe you’ll consider joining Herman on a little pilgrimage to EWTN to see how your favorite program is made. It could happen!
That’s our story and we’re sticking to it. It’s cool to be Catholic. COOL2B!
