A Good Reputation

Herman dropped by the Catholic bookstore in Chucktown recently, only to find a new face there. Or, as Sr. Jewel might’ve said, “Not a new face. Just a face that wasn’t old yet.”

Herman was used to seeing new faces in the bookstore. Over the years, the nuns came and went. That was part of how it was living together in community.

The Bible tells us that a good name is better than lots of money. And to be respected by your peers and others around you is more important than having silver and gold (Prov 22:1). That’s just one of the life lessons nuns learn living in community.

Sr. Jewel had been around the community for decades. She was well known and highly respected by her sisters. Sr. Jewel was a talented musician with a wealth of experience in publishing and distributing good media.

Herman would learn this lesson in due time. He would learn other lessons too, some from his new friend, Sr. Jewel.

Sr. Jewel really was a jewel!

That’s our story and we’re sticking to it. It’s cool to be Catholic.

In Christ.
