See The Poor

Herman remembered a poor man he saw standing on a street corner recently begging for money. The man was dirty and in need of a shave. Everyone saw the man, but Herman was sure they never actually looked at him.

It is inconvenient to be “invisible” in society, Herman reflected — painfully inconvenient!

In the Bible, Jesus said we should share what we have with the poor. If we do and follow Jesus, we will have treasure in heaven (Mt 19:21). The point is, Jesus cares about the poor very much. That means we should too.

Herman resolved to see the poor around him in the future.

It takes a great deal for a person to humble himself and plead for assistance publicly. When passerby’s don’t even look at a poor person, humility turns into humiliation.

Herman recalled that Jesus was humiliated by the Roman soldiers during His passion. The little, orange mouse was certain our Lord would not be happy if we humiliated a person in poverty.

That’s our story and we’re sticking to it. It’s cool to be Catholic. COOL2B!

In Christ.
