One Time A Long Time Ago

OUR STORY …

There’s a secret that a lot of normal people don’t ever seem to learn. Love is real!

One time a long time ago, Herman had a crush on a little mouse in his neighborhood. She was really beautiful, insofar as it’s possible for a mouse to be beautiful. In fact, Herman can still remember thinking that this little mouse just down the lane was about the most beautiful rodent he had ever seen — anywhere!

Sadly, Herman never did work up enough courage to tell the beautiful, little mouse how much he admired her. So, as fate would have it, the beautiful mouse moved on, and Herman never saw her again.

These days, Herman doesn’t ever really think about that beautiful mouse, but he does still think a lot about love. And sometimes he even wonders how much he might’ve missed out on simply because he missed an opportunity to learn how to love, one time a long time ago.

IT IS WRITTEN …

The Bible tells us some important qualities about love (1 Cor 13:1-13). Love is patient. It is kind. It doesn’t envy. Nor does it ever boast. Love is not arrogant, and it certainly isn’t rude. Love considers the other and does not seek to have its own way. It is not irritable or resentful either. Love doesn’t like wrongdoing. It always seems to rejoice in truth. It endures all things. It believes. It hopes. And it never ends.

“Wow!” Herman thought as he read from His Bible. “I’m not like that — at least, not yet. But I really would like to be!”

LIFE GOES ON …

Through life’s greatest challenges and losses, Herman had learned some important lessons. One of the most valuable came from St. Francis de Sales — the patron saint of Catholic writers. One time a long time ago, he said little mice learn to love by loving. Herman was sure this was also true for normal people too.

These days, Herman is doing alright. He’s a Cathedral mouse. The Bishop is one of his best friends. He has a really cool guardian angel named Gomez. And he’s even become a superhero of the faith. That’s not bad for a little, orange mouse.

Practice your love skills today. As Herman’s friend Earl might say, “Have a holy moment day.”

COOL2B …

Wel, that’s our story and we’re sticking to it. It’s cool to be Catholic. Cool2B!

In Christ!
