OUR STORY …
“Padre Par” was out on the golf course with one of his golf buddies from the parish. The subject came up about rich guys (and gals) going to heaven — or not. The priest could not, of course, guarantee his friend how Jesus would judge him, but he assured John that there was a place for him in the Church.
That’s a start.
IN THE BIBLE …
The Bible really does say that it is nearly impossible for a rich man to enter heaven. But that doesn’t mean God doesn’t love rich people. In fact, He does love rich people — He loves all of us.
The issue is really all about worldliness and attachments to things that are not eternal. If you value anything more than God, whatever it is, it stands between you and heaven. And that brings us to the question of wealthy people.
Wealthy people are in a position to have more “toys” than poor people, so the likelihood of having something they highly value is increased. And that means, the difficulty of getting to heaven is greater too.
LIFE GOES ON …
John did agree to be part of the Parish Council. And while he was serving, he became aware of some ways he could use his wealth to solve some problems at the church and in the community. Was it enough to get into heaven? Nobody here on earth can say for sure. After all, you can’t buy your way into heaven.
What is for sure is that, when Padre Par invited his friend to be on the Parish Council, he gave that man a new opportunity to draw closer to God. He gave his friend another chance.
Another chance matters!
That’s our story and we’re sticking to it. It’s cool to be Catholic. COOL2B!
