Extra! Extra!

He will keep you firm to the end … God is faithful, and by Him you were called (1 Cor 1:8-9)

Herman had just finished reading an interesting article. It was about a strange man who lived a hundred years ago in a little place called Alba in Italy. His name was James Alberione. This man became a Catholic priest with a lifelong commitment to good media.

Some say Fr. Alberione had a premonition. Others just think he was a man of great vision. Either way, in the time just prior to WW I, Fr. Alberione developed grave concerns for the quality of media in the world. This passion for good media would last the remainder of Fr. Alberione’s life, and it still impacts our world today.

Fr. Alberione somehow understood, even back then, that there would be bad media in the world. Perhaps he also understood that media might easily lapse into propaganda if it didn’t safeguard its own sacred trust. Whatever the case, Fr. Alberione believed that God wanted the people of the world to have access to good media. There had to be good media to counter a coming tide of bad media.

Truth really mattered to Fr. Alberione!

In today’s Bible reading, St. Paul tells the Corinthian’s that God will keep us firm in our faith. According to St. Paul, the One who called us would be faithful to us.

The Apostle St. Paul urged the Corinthians to remain true to what they were taught by the Church. He exhorted them not to be swayed by the things going on around them.

Let’s connect the dots.

Blessed Fr. Alberione is in the process of being canonized as a saint now, though the process is likely to take more time. One of his life’s accomplishments was the establishment of the Pauline family.

The Pauline family, which includes priests, religious, and laity, is committed to using all forms of media to share the good news with the world. The Paulines publish books and are very active on social media.

The leaders here at Catholic Roads are part of the Pauline family. Our own little niche might be called “creative catechesis.” Our passion is to encourage Catholics everywhere to tap into Catholic media of all kinds.

As Catholics, we are part of the most beautiful thing in the world — the Church Jesus established. We are to be the Bride of Christ. But unless the faithful consume good news daily, they (we) will be poisoned by bad news all around us. Satan would love nothing more than to soil the Bride of Christ. He wants to ruin your life — but you can stand firm. Part of your strategy ought to include daily consumption of good media produced by the Church.

That’s our story and we’re sticking to it. It’s cool to be Catholic. COOL2B!

In Christ.
