Think Again

Clean the inside of the cup first (Matt 23:26)

OUR STORY …

It was another one of those mornings for Herman. A thousand things were racing through his head. The little mouse often wondered where they all came from. That’s why he liked to start the day by reading the Bible.

It wasn’t that Herman had bad thoughts; he didn’t. It’s just that his thoughts sometimes came at him like a machine gun. Some mornings they came faster than he could process them. The little mouse feared he might miss something really important. But he also feared that his mind would get very cluttered if he didn’t let some of them go.

Whenever Herman began to read the Bible, his mind seemed to settle down. It would be at peace. Over time, Herman had learned to trust that if Jesus had something important to say, He would repeat it as often as necessary. Herman was learning to trust Jesus. He had faith that Jesus would always show him the way with the truth in love. (John 14:6)

IN THE BIBLE …

In today’s Bible readings, Jesus rebuked the Pharisees and the scribes. He could see them for what they were.

They gave the appearance of doing things correctly, but inside, it was a different story. Most of them were corrupt. They were like many politicians today, showing what they wanted people to see and saying what they wanted people to hear. But inside, there was a whole different story. They loved neither God nor the people. They were thoroughly contaminated, and Jesus was calling them out.

LIFE GOES ON …

The message today really isn’t about Pharisees and scribes. It’s not about corrupt politicians either. It’s about you, and it’s about Jesus.

What are you thinking today? Right now? What’s going on in your heart? Tell it to Jesus and use the sacraments that He gave the Church for your benefit.

We all fall short of the mark. We‘re all blemished. There’s nothing particularly remarkable about any of that. But none of us is beyond the love and mercy of our Lord.

This is the day that the a Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it (Ps 118:24). Have a blessed day!

COOL2B

That’s our story and we’re sticking to it! It’s cool to be Catholic. COOL2B!

In Christ.
