Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. (Matt 10:34-11:1)
EXTENDING CHRIST …
The ministry of the Apostles truly was an extension of Jesus’ ministry. Our Lord said to them in today’s Gospel: “Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.”
It could not have been more clearly stated. Jesus was an extension of the Father. The Apostles were an extension of Jesus. The Church is an extension of the Apostles. And this cycle continues until the end of the age, when Jesus returns.
VOCATION MATTERS …
The key to understanding the plot is vocation. God calls. We respond. Ministry happens. And life flourishes.
We are not all apostles, but we do all have specific roles in the divine drama unfolding each day. Nothing is trivial in the Kingdom of God. Daily routines are actually dramatic moments inscribed in eternity.
Some day we will see it with new eyes and finally understand it. For now, however, our mission is to simply take up our cross each day and embrace the life God has given us.
It’s cool to be Catholic. COOL2B!
