Unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees … (Matt 5:29).
We hear it all the time: “You aren’t the judge of me!” Well, that’s not exactly the truth, of course. While none of us will ever be the One who sends someone to hell, could we be the cause of someone going there — or at least, might we inadvertently contribute to the demise of another soul?
Helping Populate Hell …
Of course, it‘s possible! Helping someone else go to hell is one of the easiest things in the world to do. Just keep your faith a secret from them, and you might contribute. Don’t show them love and respect and human dignity, and surely you’ll give them a full tank of gas for the journey. Or just be arrogant and superior because you’re a Christian and watch what happens to them on Judgment Day.
Surpassing Their Righteousness …
What does it take to surpass the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees? These characters had incredible faith that was probably greater than ours. But they lacked one thing. They didn’t have love!
Just add a little love to your faith today. Try to see someone who seems unlovable the way God sees that person. You don’t even have to love them a lot — a little love goes a long way!
COOL2B …
It’s cool to be Catholic! COOL2B!
In Christ!
