Look To The Mountains

I lift up my eyes to the hills—from where will my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. (Ps 121:1-2)

In today’s illustration, Herman Nootks sits on his rock in a bewildered state. Whatever is going on in his life right now, he needs some help. But who cares? Who is concerned about a little, orange mouse? Who cares about you, for that matter! Well, God does.

Scripture tells us that we can look to the mountains for our help. Some say that the mountains represent “troubles.” If that’s the case, we should expect to see God when we need Him. We should expect to encounter God when we are at our weakest. But there’s another possibility too.

Others say that the mountains represent “high ground.” They are strategic locations in times of spiritual warfare. When we look to the high ground, we can expect o see God and His army. They occupy the commanding space and know where we are.

Either way you choose to understand it, the message is the same. God is our strength. He is our help in our times of need. He is the One we can always count on. Trust God!
