Show Me The Money

God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him might have eternal life. (Jn 3:16)

As usual, the crowd had it wrong. They grumbled when Jesus decided to stay in the home of Zacchaeus, a rich tax collector. They didn’t realize that Jesus prefered to be with sinners rather than with the “more perfect people.”

THE KINGDOM OF GOD…

Not surprisingly, that’s also how it is in the Kingdom of God. Jesus came to seek the lost and save sinners. The last will be first, and the first will be last (Mt 20:16).

Are you seeking the Kingdom of God or are you seeking something else (Mt 6:33)?

ABOUT THIS CARTOON …

This cartoon illustrates the Gospel message for the thirty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time (Lk 19:1-10). It is the Gospel message for Sunday, November 3, 2019.

In our cartoon, we hone in on the identity of Zacchaeus just as the crowd had done. He was a sinner, a rich tax collector who cheated the people. And in our cartoon, Zacchaeus was also a reluctant host. What would he feed Jesus? Who would prepare it? After all, Zacchaeus was a money man, not a chef.

The truth is, Zacchaeus was anything but reluctant. That’s not how he responded to God’s call. Actually, Zacchaeus immediately dropped everything. He didn’t think twice about letting the wealth of the world go in exchange for the Kingdom of God. Perhaps he had realized that all the wealth of the world will never fill the empty spots in your soul. Only Jesus can do that!

Zacchaeus might have been short in stature, but he definitely loomed large in wisdom.

WHAT ABOUT YOU? …

What would you have done? Are you ready to give up everything in this world? Do you really believe that Jesus has prepared something for you in eternity that far exceeds your wildest imagination? Do you know that nothing unclean or unholy will ever enter heaven (Rev 21:27).

All attachments to worldliness must be broken before you enter heaven. It has been said that the only thing you can take to heaven with you are the people that you love. What do you need to let go of today? Who do you want to take with you when God calls you home? Talk to Jesus about breaking old attachments and making the new ones that will last forever. Do it today!

In Christ!
